|The Kubín String Quartet was founded
in 1972 at the conservatory in Ostrava. Its first studies were in
Janáček Academy of Musical Arts in Brno under the supervision of the
famed Janáček Quaratet (with professor Adolf Sýkora). Further study
occurred with Professor Antonín Kohout of the Smetana Quartet
Their most immediate successes were at competitions in France (Colmar)
England (Portsmouth) and the Prague Spring Festival. Following these
competition prices, the Quartet began its international engagements
in concerts and festivals throughout Europe.
From 1987 - 1992 the Quartet was an official chamber ensemble of the
Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra.
Currently they hold teaching positions at the Ostrava Conservatory
in addition to their performing duties.
The repertoire of the Quartet is wide and varied and includes many
20th century works as well as unjustly neglected repertoire of the
Luděk Cap - 1st Violin
Jan Niederle - 2nd Violin
Pavel Vítek - Viola
Jiří Zedníček - Violoncello
